Nothing happens by accident, nothing happens randomly.
That’s how it goes in my life.
The Hip Hop Museum (THHM) was founded by Hip Hop pioneers. It has been chartered by the New York State Department of Education Board of Regents to preserve, showcase, and celebrate the culture’s past, present and future. As a Kickstarter backer of THHM, I stayed in touch after the campaign. I was overjoyed to be asked to be its contributing writer and the founding editor of the museum’s digital newsletter.
Telling the stories about the movement, the genre, and the people who make and live it was amazing. As the contributing writer, I interviewed people who contribute to the culture in all possible ways, from philanthropy to visual art to performance to community building and more.
The museum will open in 2026; we broke ground on May 20, 2021. Check out the reel shot that day by producer/director Pamela French and her team on the museum’s YouTube channel. Shouts to the stars at doNYC and Gothamist for their coverage. Meantime, you can experience the virtual museum (shouts to CARNEVALE), which is in full effect here.
Check out below, or via this folder, what I wrote during the seven years I wrote for the official record of Hip Hop.
